Art enables us to find ourselves & lose ourselves at the same time.- Thomas Merton
If you’ve read the blog before, you’ll know that I am crazy about adding modern art to a traditional space. An abstract charcoal drawing or a modernist oil painting can instantly breathe new life into a traditional space. Good design is all about juxtaposition and the play between old and new gives a space a sense of timelessness.
A collection of modern oil paintings, hung gallery style, above the sofa gives this space the perfect dose of modernity.

With that being said, I’ll admit that it can be challenging to find affordable art that is original. My mom and I are always on the hunt for a new piece for our collection and one of our favorite places to look is on Ebay. I could literally spend hours searching for vintage modern art and I’m usually amazed by the great selection.
Another great site for buying art is chairish. All of their pieces are curated from individual sellers and everything is insanely stylish. Zatista is also another site I’ve recently found. They have a collection of thousands of original pieces from artists all over the world and there are some deals to be found. Ballard’s and Target also have some stunning pieces. I’ve challenged myself to find pieces that are all under $100. My favorites are rounded up below.
Petite Intangible Art Ballard Designs // Vintage Modern Abstract Painting Ebay // Vintage Orphism Painting Ebay // Hand Printed Work Zatista // James Shipton Drawing Zatista // Charcoal on Paper Drawing Zatista // Abstract Wall Canvas Target // Contemporary Abstract Art Print Chairish // Modern Original Orbits & Comets Chairish // Petite Indigo Dot Art Ballard Designs
