Pearls are always appropriate.- Jackie Kennedy Onassis
When it comes to summer fashion, I am a true traditionalist at heart. I love nothing more than a pair of white jeans, black t-shirt and Palm Beach Sandals. And when it comes to style icons, no one epitomized the look of simplistic summer chic better than Jackie Kennedy Onassis. In the beginning, when she first joined the Kennedy family, she favored more demure styles and often wore Lily Pulitzer shift dresses when they vacationed in Hyannisport.

This is one of my favorite pictures of her. The yellow gingham and straw hat epitomize summer style.

After Jackie became a widow, life changed drastically, as it does for any woman in that situation, and her style changed with it. Of course, she married Aristotle Onassis and retreated far from the public eye in Capri and Scorpios. Her style acquired a Euro chic vibe and her fashion essentials often included white jeans, simple tunic tops and chic head scarves. This was a new Jackie who had to reinvent herself.

With Italian socialite Marella Agnelli in Capri. Chic simplicity at its finest.
One of my favorite looks.

As much as I love Jackie for her style, I admire her even more for her ability to reinvent herself after so much tragedy. Strength never goes out of style.
