Interior Trend: Dark Green Walls

If you love something it will work. That’s the only real rule.- Bunny Williams

I know I may be a bit late to the party but lately I’ve been seeing what a hot trend dark green walls are in interiors.  Make no mistake, this is not the hunter green from the late 1980s to early 1990s that was so popular.  Does the kitchen from Home Alone bring back any flashbacks? This time the hues are darker and richer and they lend a sense of drama to any space.

I love how the dark green cabinets make this kitchen so dramatic.  If the cupboards had been a traditional white, you wouldn’t get this level of richness.  The brass hardware is the perfect finishing touch- I like to think of hardware as jewelry for a room.

Painting walls and trim the same dark, dramatic color green adds grandeur to this cozy entryway.  Tone-on-tone paint colors are definitely trending in interior design right now and I have to say that I really like the idea.  It really highlights the architecture of a space and makes it feel so chic.

If committing to a bold, dark green is just too much of a leap of faith for you, I love the idea of bringing green into your space by incorporating it into smaller elements that you can easily change- like a throw pillow, lampshade or even the top of an upholstered ottoman.  This way you won’t feel like you’re stuck with too much of a color that’s trendy.

A dark green is a great choice for a bathroom because it seems so refreshing.  Adding something living, like a potted palm, breathes life into a space.

Gah! Those lacquered doors- be still my beating heart.  I think I love you.

I love the idea of painting doors a bold green-it instantly makes your architecture seem more important and substantial.  I also think it lends a sense of history to a space.

Loving the painted green ceiling here.  I always love it when a designer incorporates the ceiling into the design.  I’ve often heard that the ceiling should be thought of as the fifth wall in a room.

What do you think about going green?  Are you on board or do you just hate it?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!
